Projects and regions
Use projects to separate API keys, usage, and data, and choose the region where each project processes and stores data.
A project is a workspace inside your organization. Each project has its own API keys, usage reports, limits, and stored files and transcripts.
Use projects to keep things apart. Common setups:
- One project for development and one for production, so test traffic never touches production keys or limits.
- One project per product or customer, so you can see the cost of each one.
- A project in another region, to keep data in a certain part of the world or to lower latency for users near it.
Create a project
Open the project switcher at the top of the page and select Create project.
Choose a region. Regions your organization can't use yet are grayed out. To use one, select Request access next to it. See Request a region.
Select Create project, then create an API key for it under Project > API keys.
Regions
The region decides where Soniox processes and stores the project's audio and transcripts. For example, a project in the European Union region keeps that data in the EU.
- You can't change a project's region later. To use another region, create a new project in that region.
- Use the region's API domain. An API key from an EU project must call
api.eu.soniox.com, notapi.soniox.com. Data residency lists the domains for each region. - Some regions need approval. See Request a region.
For what stays in the region and what doesn't, see Data residency.
Request a region
To use a region your organization doesn't have yet, ask Soniox for access. You need funds in your organization and a role that allows it. See Members and roles.
Go to Organization > Security & compliance and select Request access. You can also start a request from the region list when you create a project.
Explain why you need the region, and send the request.
The region shows as Pending until Soniox approves it.
Delete a project
Go to Project > Settings and select Delete this project. To confirm, type the project's name.
Deleting a project can't be undone
All API keys in the project stop working at once, and all of its files and transcripts are deleted.
